A teacher marks what a student got wrong so the student can learn. A company gives workers feedback so they get better. Citizens criticize their leaders so problems get fixed. A country that treats every criticism as an attack shuts down the one process that makes it stronger. The belief underneath it is that America is already the greatest country on earth, so nothing needs fixing. That belief feels like loyalty, but it stops the country from improving.
