Or how bout the little guy who was one of the few people who can say he whipped Dwayne Johnsons candy a$$ on screen in the Rundown? Yep, spinning Tarzan Jiu-jutsu guy was Ernie Reyes jr. If you don't remember those classics, thats fine. Because I remember em haha. I was first introduced to him in Red Sonya (1985) Starring Brigitte Nielsen and Arnold Schwarzenegger. He told me that was one of his favorite films and I asked him how'd he get involved with that film and he told me he auditioned for it. Both Red Sonya and The Last Dragon was released the same year. In my opinion Reyes Jr. Was the REAL Karate Kid of the 80s and 90s. Without question his skills on screen were sharp and lighting fast. Even at such a young age. But thats because he earned his black belt at the age of 8 in Taekwondo under his father, Ernie Reyes Sr. Sr. founded the West Coast World Action Demo team (as seen on Wesley's Snipes Tribute to the masters) and the team members are often credited as pioneers in Extreme Martial Arts and heavily influenced "tricking." Ernie Reyes jr. was inducted into the Black Belt Hall of Fame in 2024 alongside Mark Dacascos, and Philip Rhee. Who I've had the honor of meeting both last year. I am grateful for the moment. I wish I could have afforded to meet most of the cast of TMNT that was present. But I couldnt afford it 😔 But Ernie Reyes Jr. was a must to meet as he was one of my inspirations in the martial arts as well. I wanted to kick like him.
